Suffolk Wildlife Trust farm advisory team and the Suffolk Bird Group ’Barn Owl
Support Suffolk’ project (BOSS), have teamed together to support Barn Owls in the
Waveney Valley catchment area and across Suffolk.
The funding through Suffolk Wildlife Trust will pay for the installation of up to 20 new
Barn Owl boxes in 2025, alongside free SWT farm wildlife advisory visits for eligible
farms/landowners. The criteria for being eligible for a box is that the farm has not
received a SWT farm advisory visit before and would agree to one. They also have
to be over 5 ha in size. A Barn Owl box would be provided and could be to replace
an existing box. Arrangements would be made to have the boxes monitored.
The farm advisory visit will consist of advice and guidance on wildlife friendly farming
practices tailored to the individual farm, a scoping map and report, highlighting
potential areas of creation, restoration and management of habitat. Plus, guidance
and advice on applications to land management schemes and other sources of
funding, if requested.
We would like your help in spreading the word, by sharing the eligibility criteria to
farmers you think might be interested and who you know, who would like to do more
for nature.

The offer will be split between the Suffolk Waveney catchment area and the rest of
Suffolk on a first come first served basis.
Please contact BOSS at barnowls@suffolkbirdgroup.org for eligibility criteria
guidance or further information.
